One-to-One Online Mathematics Tuition

Online Mathematics Tutoring

Develop stronger mathematical foundations, improve your problem-solving skills and understand why the methods you use actually work. Lessons are taught one-to-one and are adapted to the individual student rather than delivered as a fixed sequence of generic exercises.

Mathematics Taught with Clarity and Structure

More than 3,000 hours of one-to-one online tutoring have provided extensive experience of the points at which students commonly lose confidence or understanding. My teaching therefore places particular emphasis on definitions, intermediate steps, mathematical notation and the connections between different ideas.

Build the Foundations

Gaps in algebra, arithmetic or notation are identified and strengthened before more advanced ideas are built on top of them.

Understand Why

Formulas and procedures are explained through their underlying mathematical structure rather than presented only as rules to memorise.

Make Intermediate Steps Visible

Important algebraic and logical steps are kept visible so that students can follow the complete argument and identify exactly where mistakes occur.

Connect Mathematical Ideas

Algebra, geometry, vectors, functions and calculus are treated as connected areas of mathematics rather than unrelated topics.

Mathematics Covered

Tuition is particularly suited to students who want to strengthen their understanding of GCSE Mathematics, A-Level Mathematics and pure mathematical topics.

Algebra and Functions

Algebraic manipulation, factorisation, equations, inequalities, functions, graphs, quadratics, logarithms and exponential relationships.

Geometry and Trigonometry

Coordinate geometry, geometric reasoning, transformations, trigonometric relationships, identities and spatial problem solving.

Calculus

Differentiation, integration, gradients, rates of change, stationary points and the mathematical reasoning behind calculus methods.

Vectors

Vector notation, magnitude, direction, lines, geometric relationships and the use of vectors as a language for describing space.

Sequences and Series

Arithmetic and geometric sequences, summation, recurrence relationships and the development of general formulas.

Proof and Mathematical Reasoning

Algebraic proof, mathematical argument, definitions, counterexamples and the logical structure used to establish why a result is true.

Legacy A-Level Modular Mathematics

Support is also available for mathematical content historically organised under the following modular specifications.

Core 1 Mathematics - C1 Core 2 Mathematics - C2 Core 3 Mathematics - C3 Core 4 Mathematics - C4 Further Pure 1 - FP1 Further Pure 2 - FP2 Further Pure 3 - FP3

A First-Principles Approach

Understand the mechanism before memorising the formula.

My teaching approach is closely connected to the work developed through Geometry Insights. Definitions are introduced before they are used, compact formulas are unpacked, important intermediate steps remain visible and geometric interpretations are used when they make an algebraic idea clearer.

How Lessons Are Structured

One-to-one tuition makes it possible to concentrate on the exact areas that will produce the greatest improvement for the individual student.

STEP 1

Identify the Difficulty

Establish which ideas are secure and where gaps or misconceptions are preventing progress.

STEP 2

Rebuild the Mathematics

Work through the underlying concepts carefully, using clear notation and complete intermediate steps.

STEP 3

Apply the Understanding

Use increasingly challenging problems to make the new understanding reliable and transferable.

Learn the Mathematics, Not Just the Method

The objective of tuition is not simply to complete more questions. It is to develop mathematical foundations strong enough that new problems become easier to analyse, understand and solve.
